The RUB has been a major supporter of junior professorships as a means for establishing early academic independence and for stimulating competitiveness at the national and international level. Since the introduction of these positions in 2001, the RUB has appointed 35 junior professors in all faculties, the largest number in Germany, and with more in the pipeline.
The junior professorships form a core element in the RUB strategy for the future. Not only do they play an important role in the development of the university-wide Research School, but also for the building up of long-term top-level research. The success of these positions is indicated by the fact that a host of junior professors have been offered tenured professorships or equivalent even before the expiry of their junior professorship.
All RUB junior professorships are publically advertised. The special selection procedure closely follows the guidelines for the appointment of full W2/W3 professors. |
