Teaching Degree
It is often difficult to decide for or against teacher training directly after finishing school. This is one reason why the decision whether or not to opt for a school career does not have to be decided until after the BA phase at the RUB. For the Master of Education course, on the one hand subjects are entered into in more depth and on the other didactic contents are communicated. What is particularly important is the practical professional experience that is guaranteed at the RUB by networking with the schools in the region.
Teacher training is currently undergoing major change at the RUB: with the Teacher Training Centre (Zentrum für Lehrerbildung), twelve faculties involved in teacher training, a mutual decision-committee for teacher training (GALA) and the Alfried Krupp-Schülerlabor, the Ruhr-Universität has at its disposal functional structures for the training of future teachers. In order to network research and teaching more tightly, especially in teaching methodology and educational sciences, they will be institutionally concentrated, and thereby strengthened, in a new Professional School of Education. As a cross-faculty structure with faculty-like structures itself, it is intended as a platform to link research, practical teaching and school experience and therefore guarantee the quality of teacher training in the long term.
